Maybe no one else could smell it, but I sure did. The shame of what I’d seen and heard clung to me like the stink of a Friday night fish fry. Nevertheless, I was expected to put on my school clothes, brush my hair, eat my cereal, brush my teeth, and sit in class with my little friends as if nothing had happened the night before. The next morning, I awoke to the aftermath of the night’s tirade-Mom’s black eye, Dad’s crying remorse, furniture tossed and broken-and those bad words bouncing around my little-girl head. I didn’t know what some of them meant, but I did know how they made me feel. I remember as a little girl, hiding under the covers of my bed, trying to shut out my parents’ yelling and screaming in the next room. I’m here to today to tell you words God wants you to hear: “Shame off you!”

As Christians discover the joy and blessing of a proper response to God, they also discover this amazing truth: When a believer fears God, there is no need to fear anything else.Has anyone ever scolded you with the words, “Shame on you”? If they have…don’t receive it. Christians participating in this study will gain increased knowledge of the Book of Malachi and be challenged in life application as they draw upon the combined commentary, illustrations, questions, and activities found in Before His Throne. This nine-week interactive Bible study challenges Christians to examine their hearts and move toward a deeper and more effective relationship with God, who is both Father and Lord. Before His Throne explores the Book of Malachi to find the meaning and relevance of approaching God with godly fear. Before the throne of God is an intimate place filled with abundant joy and blessing.

The wonderful truth, however, is that recognizing the worthiness of our holy God is the beginning of an intimate relationship with Him. We have become very casual with God at the expense of losing reverence for who He is. Contemporary Christian society often views godly fear as negative and outdated.
